Contains a short memoir discussing Sorensen's military involvement. Discusses his induction in the National Guard, education, government employment prior to the war (working on one of the first teams to research penicillin), and his commission as a medical officer. Describes his transfer to New Guinea and the living conditions on that island. Also describes his unit's participation as support at the invasions of Leyte Gulf and Mindanao, and in the occupation of Japan. Gives details of sanitary conditions on the front lines. Briefly discusses his employment at military hospitals following the war's end.
